Autumn is the time in Istria when the family jewels are on show for all to see. Like a bride, Istria is bedecked in their beauty, cloaked in the opulent and intense colours and engrossed in the polyphony of sounds. These colours make Istria an ideal place where to enjoy excitement of nature. Woodland is the lead actor of the season with its abundance of crop; from the ordinary wild mushroom to the mythical truffle. On the sea this is the season of migration and rich harvests of white and blue fish. Autumn is also the time of festive rituals from way back that accompany the picking of grapes. It could be that this is the crucial moment of the whole year when, after many month’s labour in the vineyards the precious grapes of Terrano, Muscat, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the famous Istrian Malvazija are gathered. After the harvest the grapes are handed over to the masters of the alchemy that will in the end produce the wines that made Brtonigla famous and gave it the exclusive title of the “City of Wine”. |
